I believe we all hold dear an unpopular automotive opinion. Maybe you secretly caress your CRZ in your garage every night.

“I don’t care what the haters say, I adore you just as you are” you proclaim under the fluorescent lights.

It is possible you believe the Chevy Cavalier is the peak of cheap economy cars. You swear you will be dead and buried before they pry the keys to your beloved Z-24 out of your hands.

Time to confess Oppo. I’ll start.

I am enamored with the 2013-2016 generation of the Lincoln MKZ. I like the Baleen whale split grill water fall face. I like the silhouette of the side profile. I like the view from the back. I just want to walk up to a strangers car, run from hand along it, then give it a little slap.

Kinja'd!!!

This. I like this car.

Kinja'd!!!

I generally don’t consider myself a big fan of rear-ends, but I enjoy the view from behind on this one.

I really enjoy the interior. I’m fine with the push button transmission. It is a much better use of interior space. I’ve long given up on the notion that modern gear selectors are physically linked to the transmission in anything but a manual.

Kinja'd!!!

Yep, want.

Let’s hear them. What views will you not waver on despite the bombardment of keyboard jokeys saying you are stupid, wrong and should feel bad from having that opinion?

I love my Corolla and believe it’s totally underrated and I think it’s an awesome and fun little car, also I actually owned a crown Vic and hated that fucking thing and believe that they really aren’t what people think they are because to me it was uncomfortable, unreliable and it doesn't handle well

31 thousand pounds/50 thousand dollars, roughly. Mostly academic because they were in theory only selling them to people who already had an Aston. In other words, nearly three times as much as a base iQ for a couple of deluxe features, leather, a ridiculous Aston grill, and bespoke luggage.

I think Mazda makes pretty awful vehicles in terms of value from a regular consumer point of view (it’s better on the cheap end, awful at the top end, especially over $25k).

I do too. If I move into a condo downtown, I’m buying one just to be that guys that tells his new mistress at the bar that I drive an Aston Martin. I’d take it to the Aston Martin dealership to have it serviced, just to be that guy.

I kind of wonder which entity would give you weirder looks: the Aston dealer or the Toyota dealer. I mean, at the Aston dealer they’re - in a sense - paid enough to pretend that the customer of the day is sane, but they might have a harder time with it.

They honestly do not care, I have a neighbor that takes his Beetle (yup) and his Merc E-Class to the Porsche dealer for detailing and all of his paint needs and stuff (which are quite a lot tbh, he pretty much repaints the cars liek every 4-5 years) he’s demanding, but he brings a lot of business so they like him well enough.

It, like everything, depends on your own attitude, if you go in an Audi dealer all high and mighty with an 8 year old A3 and treat everyone like the help you’re probably in the wrong.

Also I would assume Aston would prefer if you brought the simple, inexpensive-to-repair car to their dealer so they can charge you the same as a Vantage for servicing and make a ton of money...

I didn’t question that. Only answered to your question.
I myself have never even driven a miata, let alone owned one, but I understand the appeal. I have an RX-8 for the thrills, but I might get a MX-5 for the summer. That or a CRX del sol.

The MKZ is a nice looking car. The CR-Z is a good car, and (yes) it’s legitimately fun. FWD can very frequently be more enjoyable than RWD/AWD.

Also, show cars are pretty pointless - unless they’re driven. A perfectly-restored car is great, but I want to see someone enjoying the ride - not just the looks. Concours-quality museum pieces are an exception. They’re cool, but I still think they should be driven.

Modifying your DD is pointless (I mean big, not-bolt-on things). Tracking your DD is very possible, but odds are you’re better off buying a cheap car and running it into the ground. That’s not that unpopular of an opinion, but this is:

I don’t want an expensive car. A GT3RS is pointless. Most people won’t take it to the track, and on the street they won’t be able to enjoy what makes it a GT3RS. Those who do take it to the track (a) probably don’t have the chops to justify that much car and (b) probably won’t drive it hard enough to justify it. I mean, you can afford an expensive car - good for you. Can you afford to put it into a wall? I hope so, because it’s above the coverage limit for Lockton track insurance. You can get other insurance, but it won’t be cheap either! In other words, they’re paying for the badge. Paying for a badge is.... ehhhh.

I love my 3. My gf loves hers. I’ve convinced several people broaden their search for cars to include Mazda beyond the typical CivRolla and a few have come away from the experience happier with their Mazda purchase.

With that said: you’re mostly right. Their best value is with their Touring (mid trim) and to a lesser degree Sport (base trim). When you get to Grand Touring (top trim) the value (what you get for the money) doesn’t hold up as well to the competition.

However, I've been so pleased with mine, I'd still strongly consider and favor a Grand Touring trim Mazda over the competition but it wouldn't be the hands down choice/winner like my touring trim 3 was.

I agree with the sports car thing. Most people can’t handle the power the base model sports cars put out these days let alone the more powerful or track focused trims. Even if they could, even fewer would go through the trouble of a track day and the car’s ability are wasted on the street. Same thing goes for someone who buys a F650 as a DD and occasional Home Depot trip.

It’s all for show and that’s fine if that’s how you wanna spend your money. I’d rather spend my money on something I can handle and use.

Recently my dad almost got a mustang GT. After spending the day with it on an extended test drive he decided it was too powerful. He said he'd either lose his license or hate driving it because he'd never get to tap into the power without risk of tickets or a wreck.

That’s pretty heretical, and I agree with you, but I actually prefer the Camry Hybrid to the Prius. It’s as fat and plush as the sofa in your living room, yet I got above 45 MPG in several thousand miles of regular commuting, and above 50 MPG on a 60 mile road trip. And that’s not using the numbers off the Distracto-Matic™ screen but computing from odometer readings versus gas pump readings.

I agree. This is the only whale Lincoln that I actually like, but the interior is still a bit generic across the range. I’d only be ok with a push-button transmission if it got us a front bench seat again.

Kinja'd!!!

Looking at that profile, though, makes me wish it was a liftback like the A7 or Superb.

I don’t looooove the Mazda Miata, I like it well enough, it actually inspired me to sell the Golf and buy something more exciting, but it’s way too slow for me and it rattles so bad and a couple of my friends even had problems with bolts literally falling off, so I didn’t get one, I dislike it when people try to make it up to be something more than what it is, it’s a cheap RWD 2-seater, that’s its only redeeming quality, it’s cheap.

Also, if Mazda calls it MX-5, that’s what its called, deal with it...

Kinja'd!!!

I desire with all my heart an old FWD Focus RS, even in bright green, I think it looks fantastic and I desperately want one to replace the Z.

If you can afford a GT3RS you can afford a Formula Ford, all the required support equipment, and the necessary running costs. You’ll also have a lot more fun with it.

Kinja'd!!! fourvalleys > Funktheduck

Kinja'd!!!1

That’s part of why I chose a Fiesta ST (and the leftover cash) versus a Focus RS. I would be into a tree or in jail so quickly... the Fiesta is enough fun to almost get me into trouble anyway.

And hey, I figured using that leftover cash for a dedicated track car isn’t a bad option to have, if I want it. We’ll see.

How many GT3RS owners do you think own a Formula Ford? I’m guessing not many. Fewer than those who actually track their Porsche.

I’m sure some have a different (dedicated) track car, but that’s even more to my point - they’re wasting the Porsche!

Kinja'd!!! AntiSpeed > fourvalleys
06/23/2016 at 13:34

What I mean is that they should buy the Formula Ford instead of the Porsche. I totally agree with you, a car like that is a waste of money and potential.

My wife and I have the ‘14 MKZ Hybrid. Bought the Hybrid instead of the 2.0 since it was offered at the exact same price, and figured why not. We have had no issues with the push button trans, honestly it’s been great. The car handles well, drives well, gets decent mileage (37-38 avg over the life of the car 50/50 hwy/city), and is very comfortable. The full roof sliding glass is just awesome. My only real issue is that the 2.0 in the hybrid is much louder than you would expect in a “luxury” car, and not in a good way.
